1  Orca3D Talk! / Support / Re: rows and columns on: April 18, 2012, 10:53:09 PM
the row and columns...just means U and V direction's control points and it also add isocurve
here are some rules of these...

add control points will change the original hull
add knots will not change on it
remove both will change original hull

and less is more,do not put so many control points on ur hull,it will let u hard to fairing...
if the shape's curvature changes very quickly, here needs more isocurve...

example:
middle part of the hull doesn't need too more control points(so it doesn't need too more isocurve)
some times the bow shape need more control points(maybe we add a Bulbous bow)
so u will add more control points near here to form the shape(use insert knots..to add isocurve,u v direction both)

try it Grin

Very thanks! I will translate it to English soon,
if u have interest in this and can't wait...
I think ship design is similar to architecture design
so there are many similar useful knowledge we can learn from
maybe u can check this book,it's great book

4  Orca3D Talk! / Gallery (post your projects) / Yacht Design Concept and Space Planning for Ship Design Process on: September 26, 2011, 11:19:24 PM

I just want share my project and space planning for  Ship Design Process
just check this website, the project name: Megalodon, just like a big shark Grin
http://prezi.com/lcqqwdn14i50/ship-design-process/
but sorry these days have no time to translate Chinese word to English

the process just like this
Step1 : User requirement
Step2 : Space Planning with Human Control Module(Grasshopper) and something other to help figure out the space planning requirement
Step3 : when preliminary layout finished(include preliminary exterior design),use Orca3D to wrap a hull to fit layout(in that time use calculate module to analyze)
Step4 : if there have some conflicts between hull and layout, choose one to change it and fulfill requirement needs(may speed or other)
Step5 : Render with V-ray
Step6 : done

how u design a yacht?

I will change the presentation to English version later
5  Orca3D Talk! / Support / Re: How to treat an excisting Rhino Hull in Orca3D on: March 19, 2011, 11:16:53 AM
Yeah u just need to explode it cuz this is polysurface
btw, sometimes ur existing Hull if it conform to some rule
it can just use MergeSrf command to Merge it (smooth option:no)
u can use split command at isocurve of the Orca3D Hull (so split a knot point) to see what i mean
example:
Use Hull-assistant make a planning Hull
and split at the chine, now u can see two hull with control points(F10)
cuz they all are surface not polysurface
now use MergeSrf  merge it (smooth option:no)
so i think when u make this practice
u will know what is the rule

another way
u can use orca3D-assistant to fit ur existing Hull(even AutoCAD 3-View Lines or Polysurface Hull)to make another similar ones
Good Luck

I will check it later,
maybe i lose something,thanks~

thanks ur suggestion ,Justin!
8  Orca3D Talk! / Support / Line drawing and add the Diagonals? on: August 21, 2010, 04:25:08 AM
hey i find a strange thing, but i think it maybe a bug,
when i use "Line drawing" function, and want to add diagonals ,the label will not automotive change to  their name (maybe 10Deg,-0.232 m Diagonal ,just like other sections,ex: 0.723 m WL) and just show custom curves, btw i actually add 3 Diagonal lines, but it just add one,i don't know why~

thanks
9  Orca3D Talk! / Support / Re: About Insert chine on: August 20, 2010, 11:47:48 AM
sorry actually just insert chine,if just want a chine
don't need to use that complex way,
but sometimes maybe need that,
if we need more control to the chine width not just depend on the line added(insert chine),
i think
10  Orca3D Talk! / Support / Re: About Insert chine on: August 19, 2010, 03:39:36 AM
thanks ur remind to the chine color,Justin
i just insert the control row between the 3 row,so the chine color disappear,
now i know what happen to that,
but it seems to make a double chine and smooth hull by this way needs many times(may just i not familiar that)
cuz i just want try when the process is start from a plate (one plate build the hull)or maybe add 2 more double chine to exist hull,
example if i want make a planning hull has two double chine:
1.Use hull assistant to build a planning hull which has it own double chine

2.conect the control point from this hull(cuz later we will use it to loft another hull to check chine) and Extracct IsoCurve (U direction )
to split these  V direction lines near the bottom and add  a straight line(maybe const length, use copy and move them)
The picture likes the 2 double chine add, white line is control polygon not extract IsoCurve from the hull

http://www.badongo.com/pic/10266448
3.Hide original hull(from hull assistant wizard) and use these lines(V direction ,these curves have be edited ) to loft the hull and
check whether the effect mach ur goal or not, picture like this, the forward control point it doesn't matter now,and the loft option need
to be loose so that hull's control points will match the line's control points
   The picture likes

http://www.badongo.com/pic/10266449

4.open the original hull , use insert chine add two chine, and now take the white line as ref. line use set pt or other tool to move the
hull's control points on the line(just like when u loft the hull) (maybe u will use "Move" "Scale 1D" "Set pt")

5.and final , add another one knot between Them(cuz the control point not enough), after that u can get the 2 double chine hull
  see the picture

http://www.badongo.com/pic/10266450

the loft hull now u can delete it, it just use in check
u can see the very smooth hull done , is the methood good or there are other better way for do this case?

and here has another question , for analyze the model(maybe by CFD tool or other),
it seems some times ,if control points be together,
it will be not good and cause some problem,
so how can we deal this? spilt them just like the loft picture the second double chine (the forward control point not be together)?
so when we use hull assistant, the final we also need spilt them?

very thanks!

hey i don't know why i can't put the picture well = =
11  Orca3D Talk! / Support / About Insert chine on: August 18, 2010, 10:53:52 AM
Hi , I try to figure out how to use this tool well
Is it true that function "Insert Chine" just insert some special knots to the surface,
so that have enough control point to make chine? or have other properties?
(i think is special cuz if we insert knots that will add the isocurve but Orca3D didn't)
but now here confuse me the other,
if now we use sail assistant to build a hull, every column have 6 control ,and now we use "insert chine" to insert chine,
now add 3 row control point and 1 isocurve(why just one isocurve??)
ok keep going,so now if i need add hard chine like the right one in the picture,i think the control points still not enough,
so i add a row control points, now every column have 10 points,
and choose 4 row control points to make chine(use "Set points" let them's z position to be the same)
and i make some line to aid with making smoothness

final just like the picture
but not good, still need fair the hull
i just wonder how to insert chine well and some good suggestion for the process
thanks!

oh sorry now i think that now is not a big problem
just need to change some value ~ha ha
sorry for ask a stupid problem
and very thanks to lleibman
13  Orca3D Talk! / Support / Real-time Hydrostatics and Hull assistant on: May 25, 2010, 01:41:36 PM
hi
I hava a question about Hull assistant, knows it can preview hydrostatics when use assistant,
but can we define the float plane first?
cuz when useing assistant module,
the preview hydrostatics just show the conditions on the z=0 plane
if i want compare some similar ship's parameter(L/B disp./L ....etc.),
it is not convenient
cuz when click "create hull",after that,
the length,beam...etc must change by another way not use assistant module
I try to make another surface first, and define the design condition,
and use assistant to create another hull surface and preview hydrostatics,
but it still use z=0 plane as float plane
i think if we can define the plane first for real time hydrostatic check when useing hull assistant that will be good
or is there any methood to achieve that?

I always change the keel height@transom value and offset the other value,
ex : i want design waterline lay on the ship's 1 m position,
so i define the value of keel height@transom -1,and the Transom Deck Height 2m ,so that creat 3 m length of aft

thanks

Hi
i already send the model file and some data to the e-mail
when u finish the speed & power anlsys please let me know~
thanks very much~
15  Orca3D Talk! / Support / speed & power on: January 04, 2010, 02:33:27 AM
I compare my experiment data with Orca3D's data, and i don't know why every time i set a range for test speed,
ex :5-35 knots,but the Orca3D only show 14-35 knots, i don't know why~
btw this my data
                Orca3D              experiment

14.000   9681.1      6535.42
17.000   10387.8           8205.24
20.000   10468.5      8876.09
23.000   10455.6      9768.52
26.000   10419.5          10208.49
29.000   10314.8          10510.15
32.000   10166.6           10500.2
35.000   10045.3          10544.26

sorry i don't know how to explain the result now~
somethin need to check~

one more thing sometime i combination the hull(transom...hull..deck)
the hull will have some shadow

and this model is build from a orignal AutoCAD lines drawing,
i arrange the section and water lines...and use the Orca3D planing hull assistants to fit the lines,
and use the orca3D control points to fit more accurate until the shape all the lines fit the orignal lines(just a little different~)

thanks~

p.s. the hydrostatic module can't calculate Cp
