I loaded this morning at 10:58 (Helsinki time) new version of Orca to install it to my laptop. The istallation file name was Orca3DInstallation_2111130.exe. After installation (Win 7) I founded it slightly updated and the version number is 1.2.1. So i liked to update it also to my desktop. Unfortunately I couldn't install it in my desktop (Win XP) and I already reached to take off the original Orca3D installation. Then I asked you a new installation file address, istalled it and the version is now the old 1.1.0 (as it was). So what happened to that new version? Or, have you different version at different links?

Hello Terho,

The current "Release" version of Orca3D is 1.1.0. Version 1.2.1 is still a "Work-In-Progress (WIP)" version of the software. This is similar to the WIP distribution mechanism used by Rhino. We make WIP versions available for those who want to try out the new features and provide feedback to us on them.

What was the problem you were having installing 1.2.1 on your WinXP desktop machine?

Regards,

Larry

OK. I'll use the WIP-version in my laptop and report any malfunctions...

Error message at installation was:

Can't create output file:H:\DOCUME~1\Terho\LOCALS~1\Temp\Orca3D_20111130_setup.exe

Hello Terho,

If you wish to also try the WIP version on your desktop, it looks like the error message may be related to a problem unzipping the install files. When you double click the installation, it tries to unzip several files to your Temp folder (which in your case looks to be on your H: drive). I'm not entirely sure why it would be failing (could be a permissions issue) but in any case you can change where it unzips the files to by changing the "Unzip to folder" to a folder you have write permissions for before clicking the "Unzip" button.

Larry

Hello Terho,

When the installation stops are you getting an error message (I assume you are not getting the "Can't create output file..." message any more)?

One possible workaround is to download and install the prerequisite(s) manually. I'm guessing that in your case, the installer is trying to download and install the Microsoft ReportViewer 2010. You can install this directly from the following link:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=3EB83C28-A79E-45EE-96D0-41BC42C70D5D&displaylang=f&displaylang=en

Then try the WIP installation again and it should detect that the prerequisite has already been installed.

Kind Regards,

Larry

Well, all my problems installing Orca versions were caused by old Win XP. After I updated my PC to Win 7, all problems are out... Thanks for your patience.

Glad to hear that you are up and running, but a shame you had to wait for so long.

Orca3D exists in 32bit and 64bit versions, and the installation file sets are labelled accordingly in the download page of the Orca3D web site.

Orca3D 32bit will run inside Rhino v4 sp9, under all operating systems supported by Rhino v4 (Win XP sp3 and sp4).
Orca3D 64bit will run inside Rhino v5 64bit (both are still beta releases at this time), under all operating systems supported by Rhino v5 64bit.

In the future, please do not hesitate to contact support@orca3d or myself directly (ndar@ndar.com) for any questions you may have about Orca3D.

Thanks,

nick danese
