Hi,

Currently trying to model a multi chined sailboat hull, as shown below;

So far ive been using the sailing boat assistant combined with the 'insert chine' command. However i dont seem to be able to achieve the hard chines shown in the picture.

I did wonder about using the planing hull assistant, but I cant seem to put more than one chine in- is this even a viable approach?

Im sure this must be possible, can any one offer any support?

Thanks

Hello,

I believe you are on the right track with the insert chine command but need to go a little bit further. The command OrcaInsertChine does not actually change the shape of the hull surface. It adds the topology (or control structure) to the surface control net in order to be able to form a chine. You then use direct manipulation of the surface control points to form the chine shape as you desire. There is a pretty good discussion of this in the Orca help manual in the Hull Design sections "Inserting a Chine" and "Moving Control Points".

Let me know if you still have questions after reading through the help manual.

Larry

Hello Ross,

The question of importing into AutoCad is really more of a Rhino question than an Orca3D question. As such I would refer you to the Rhinoceros Help File (search for AutoCAD in the index). Rhino can certainly export model information to AutoCAD dxf/dwg format. You should try a couple of tests to see if the import works as expected for you.
